Spring Fest Brings Paintball, Carnival, and More to Eastern

Every year, Eastern Connecticut State University holds Spring Fest, an event hosted by CAB that holds a variety of different events over numerous days. Spanning from Wed. April 25 until Sun. April 29, various events such as bingo and a carnival will be available for students and people in the Willimantic community. For the finale, the popular rapper A$AP Ferg will be at Eastern on Sun. April 29 to put on a concert in the Geissler Gym.

Spring Fest has been a part of Eastern for many years now, and each year, CAB works extremely hard to improve it. “Half of the members leave or graduate every year which means we get new students, freshman through seniors, which brings a new aspect every year,” Matt Belmont, a member of CAB, told The Campus Lantern.

This year, they’ve added the Chills and Thrills and the Backyard BBQ activities.
Chills and Thrills has many different fun activities such as paintball, bungee trampoline, ice cream bar, and more. CAB held paintball in 2016, but has not had it since; finally, this year they decided to add it back again. Chills and Thrills will be held Thurs. April 26 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Webb Lawn.
For the Backyard BBQ, CAB teamed up with SGA and Chartwells. On Thurs. from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. on the Burnap/Crandall Lawn, there will be a cookout that is open to all students, even those who don’t have a meal plan. Additionally, since Hurley will be closed during this time, students who do have a meal plan can swipe into the BBQ and it will count as one of their meals.
The carnival is one of the most popular attractions of Spring Fest, bringing in over a thousand people. There will be games, rides, and good food. This year there will be fried dough, cotton candy, and Rita’s Italian ice. Following the carnival, at 9 p.m. – 10 p.m., there will be fireworks at the baseball field down the street from Eastern, where there will also be s’mores and hot chocolate. Transportation will be provided; shuttles will start bringing students over at 8:30pm from the Student Center.
The big finale of Spring Fest will be on Sun. April 29 when A$AP Ferg will put on the annual Spring Concert. Doors open for at 6 p.m., and the concert starts at 7. Tickets for Eastern students are $15 with an ID, and $20 for other guests. Tickets can be purchased online or at the Student Center Information Desk.
