NFL Week 5 Fantasy Predictions

Matthew Evarts   Staff Writer

Start: Matt Ryan vs. Pittsburg
Since the start of the season Matt Ryan has had the second most fantasy point for quarterbacks in the league. This week he is going to be going up against the Pittsburg Steelers who rank second to last against opposing QBs this season. This is going to be a shootout so expect Matt Ryan to have a good day vs Pittsburg.

Sit: Russell Wilson vs LA Rams
This week’s match-up for Russell Wilson is not a favorable one. The LA Rams have a great front 7 on defense that love to get after the quarterback. The Rams are giving up the 9th fewest fantasy points against QBs. With the Seahawks offensive line having struggles protecting Wilson it’s going to be a tough day for him and that Seattle offense.

Running back:

Start: Melvin Gordon vs Oakland
Over the past three weeks Gordon has had 5 touchdowns (3 receiving and 2 Rushing). He is seeing a massive workload from the LA coaching staff. With this heavy workload Gordon has stepped up this season, coming into the week as the 3rd best running back in fantasy. Oakland has not been good however at stopping running backs this season. They give up the 10th most fantasy points to running backs this season and they have not faced a running back with the amount of skills that Melvin Gordon has. Look for him to have the most points this week.

Sit: Carlos Hyde vs Baltimore
Hyde has had the 8th most fantasy points coming into the season but he plays a Baltimore defense that does not give up a lot of yards or touchdowns to opposing running backs, giving up the second fewest points to opposing running backs this season. Also, with the emergence of 2nd round pick Nick Chubb look for Hyde’s touches to go down as they try to get Chubb more involved in the offense.

Wide Receiver:
Start: Alshon Jeffery vs Minnesota
Contrary to popular belief, Minnesota has not played well on defense this season. Giving up the 11th most fantasy points to wide receivers this season. Jeffery came back from offseason surgery last week and showed why last season he was Carson Wentz’s favorite target, bringing in 8 receptions for 105 yards and 1 touchdown. Look for Jeffery to have that same amount of production against the Vikings.

Sit: Tyreek Hill vs Jacksonville
Tyreek has played well this season, scoring the 3rd most fantasy points among wide receivers. However, that number should be taken with a grain of salt because since his week one performance where he scored 51.3 points, he has only scored an average of 15 points for 3 weeks. Now they play a Jacksonville defense with Jalen Ramsey who is giving up the 2nd fewest points to wide receivers this season. Look for Hill to have below 15 points this week.

Tight end:

Start: Austin Hooper vs Pittsburg
Before the season started I had Atlanta being one of the most prolific offense this season. They have not disappointed, as they are scoring the 6th most PPG this season. Playing a Pittsburg defense who is giving up the most fantasy points to opposing tight ends this season. With Matt Ryan also being on the start list for this week look for Hooper to be above 10 points this week.

Sit: Kyle Rudolph vs Philadelphia
This is going to be a tough week for Rudolph against the Vikings because the Vikings have one of the worst offensive lines in football and if you can get to Kirk cousins and disrupt him his pass catchers will be ineffective. Philadelphia surrenders the 5th fewest points to opposing tight ends this season. To go along with the fact, they are hungry and need to win games, I see Rudolph being outside the top 20 for tight ends this week.
