Eastern’s Got Talent

On Oct. 13, 2018, the Office of Housing and Residential Life presented Eastern’s Got Talent in the Betty Tipton Room. The talent show competition, inspired on the NBC show “America’s Got Talent”, is an event where Eastern students compete against one another with their own unique acts to win $500 in prizes.

Along with the contest itself, the Office of Housing and Residential life put together a bunch of raffles that the audience could participate in by signing into the event with their ID number. The raffle prizes included Eastern apparel, such as hats with the university’s logo on it. Refreshments were also available for both the audience and the contestants. The participants showed many different talents. From beautiful signing performances to mouth-dropping magic tricks, the crowd was amazed. Once all of the students performed, the audience voted on which act would win first, second, third, and fourth place.

The fourth place was awarded to Evan Berak for his magic card act. Third place was awarded to Serena and Olivia Innaco for their dancing performance. United Voices of Praise came second for their singing performance. Finally, the first place was awarded to Mikel Facey for his stellar rap piece.

This event was truly a spectacular. Students were able to engage in a healthy competition and had fun while doing so. It shows how our community is truly well-rounded and full of skills that go beyond our areas of study. This is the true meaning of a liberal arts education.

Hopefully Eastern’s Got Talent will be held by Housing and Residential Life in
the next semester and continue being a tradition next year; it would be interesting to see which acts would return and what new acts would appear. Nevertheless, this event definitely proves that Eastern’s Got Talent!
