There is a new partnership brewing at the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) that could create opportunities for arts students at Eastern.
The new partnership is with Windham Arts, who’s executive director, John Murphy, is an adjunct professor in the communication department. He has been an adjunct at Eastern for the last 34 years and has also worked for a few years part time at the CCE. After leaving the CCE, he found a spot at Windham Arts and was appointed Executive Director as of September 2018.
Windham Arts is a state-designated regional service organization, tied into the Connecticut Office of the Arts in Hartford. The goal of the organization to spread the arts in communities across Northeast Connecticut and to provide support to artists in the community. This support is shown in many ways, including providing spaces to artists to show and sell their work.
A partnership between Eastern and Windham Arts will provide a new opportunity to faculty and students to further explore the art world. By connecting with the CCE, Windham Arts will be able to easily connect with students through structured volunteer opportunities. As with other programs at the CCE in the fields of teaching, social needs, and human services, students will be able to volunteer in arts-related events. This possible new opportunity will help spread the impact Eastern Connecticut State University has on the community and create even more outlets for the students to discover themselves and the world around them.
