We are reaching the middle of November, almost done with the fall semester. Once December is here, it is all about finals and going home. The problem is that with it being so close to the holidays, our minds are already on Christmas break. At this point, it is so easy to slip into the mentality of just getting by. Taking things day by day is okay, but once we start dreading it all because we’re tired of doing the same thing every day, we start losing purpose. But all that matters is passing our classes, right? When we do this, we are selling ourselves short. We’re not putting full potential into our work and then we end up frustrated with ourselves when we do not see the results we want to see. We only have ourselves to blame for this.
One way to keep you from giving up on your full potential is to remind yourself why you’re here. The next time you want to give an assignment or studying for an exam minimal effort, go into the recesses of your mind and think about the people who helped you get here. Think about your family and all the sacrifices they have made for you. Think about what you are passionate about. If you’re not inspired about what you are studying, then maybe you need to reevaluate your career goals.
Keep in mind that doing what you’re passionate about isn’t always going to make you happy. Sometimes it will be overwhelming, but you must trust in the process of life and recognize that one day it will all be worth it. Think about yourself and the future you have in mind. Do you really want to look back on your years in college and regret how much you took for granted? So much money and time is going into you attaining that degree. Don’t give up. Fight the urge to skip class. Rearrange your priorities. Stay on top of your work. You will probably avoid a lot of frustration with yourself if you do not leave everything for last minute. Take your time with things. Don’t rush it just to get it over with.
Do you really want to look back at the end of the semester and think to yourself how you could have done better? Do not give up on the semester, but most importantly, do not give up on yourself. Give everything you do your all. Remind yourself of the end goal: graduating and attaining a degree under your name and through your hard work. Before making anyone else proud, make yourself proud.
