Marathons around this time of year are also extremely well known, and due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic,  many of them around the globe have to postpone or cancel. According to Aljazeera.com, the London marathon was scheduled to take place Sunday April 26th, and now it is set to take place on October 4th. The Boston Marathon was originally scheduled for April 4th, but now is postponed until September 14th. Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona marathons have been postponed as well. In Japan on the 1st of March the Tokyo Marathon attracts around 3,000,000 participants, but now due to covid-19 it is now limited to 200 elite runners.

Another sport in our society that millions of people are entertained by is racing. The Indianapolis 500 scheduled for May 24 has been postponed until August 23, and will not run on Memorial Day weekend for the first time since 1946. The French MotoGPinitially scheduled for May 15-17 in Le Mans, was postponed because of the “ongoing coronavirus outbreak”, organisers announced on April 2. All tennis matches have also been affected due to the virus. The international tennis federation (ITF) stated that 900 tournaments across all of its circuits have been postponed and staff members have also been affected. The professional tennis tour, both mens and womens have been suspended until June 7th, with all clay-courts tournaments in europe cancelled. ATP and WTA ranking have been frozen and will be unavailable until further notice. The NBA and MLB seasons here in the US are still suspended due to the virus and at this time it is unknown of when they will resume. The WNBA draft was held virtually and the NFL draft will be held April 23-25, which will also be virtually. As covid-19 continues to impact our nation we hope that all sports and events will resume and reopen soon.  Toggle panel: Post Adverts
